Rupes built this around a colour-coded system for a reason. Blue cuts, yellow refines. D-A Coarse is the heavy stage, engineered to remove severe defects, deep scratches, oxidation and sanding marks while still leaving a surface that refines easily. D-A Fine is the unusual one — a fine polish with far more cutting ability than fine polishes traditionally offer, which means on moderately swirled paint it often works as a complete one-step on its own, and after a Coarse pass it finishes to high gloss without a third stage. Both are designed as diminishing abrasives that spread across the surface as a lubricated abrasive rather than loading into the foam, which is what keeps them working consistently and finishing cleanly. Pad Pairings

Pad pairings are starting points — actual cut varies with machine, throw, speed, pressure and paint hardness, so test your combination on a small area before committing to a panel. Compounding removes clear coat permanently: assess paint thickness first and take extra care on edges, body lines and previously corrected panels. Work in the shade on cool surfaces and refer to the manufacturer's label for current guidance.
